Speed Student Competitions
Student Competition
One of the longest standing traditions of the Engineering Expo is the student research competition. At the Speed School of Engineering, professors mentor students in cutting edge research projects in the fields of nanotechnology, biomedicine, renewable energy and many others. E-Expo allows these students an opportunity to present their findings to the public and their peers in a poster competition for monetary awards provided by the office of the dean. Each student must present their poster to the public and volunteer judges with a full critique in order to compete for the awards. Judges typically consist of Speed alumni, working or retired engineers and scientists from industry, and faculty.
Judging and Awards
Each year the approximately $3,000 in donations are awarded to the winning poster presentations in the research competition. Awards are given for the top five places in either the undergraduate/MEng or graduate (MS/PhD) divisions. There will be a preliminary round of judging and a final round that occurs later in the day. Registered students will be informed of their approximate judging schedule so that they are free to visit some of the other E-Expo exhibits.
Students may not display anything not printed on their poster as part of their presentation. Tri-fold display boards will be provided by Speed School Student Council to support the posters at E-Expo.
Location
This year’s Speed student research presentation competition will be located on the second floor of the Kersey Library building located immediately behind the J.B. Speed Building.
