Judge Page
All student research competition projects are judged by volunteer judges from the fields of education, engineering, and science. Please read below for more details on how to become a judge and the important role that these volunteers play in E-Expo.
Competition Description
Students are asked to present their research in a poster format to a panel of judges from a similar background as the project in one of two divisions: undergraduate or graduate. Judging will occur in two rounds of two and a half hours each where students will give brief oral presentations to the panel followed by a period for questioning. The scores after the first round will be tallied to select the students who advance to the second
round. In the first round, presentations will compete within their department and round two will consist of school wide competition.
Role as a Judge
Judges who volunteer to evaluate student research competitions at E-Expo must be familiar with the sciences and technology or at least one of the seven majors awarded by the Speed School of Engineering: Industrial, Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Computer, and Mechanical Engineering.
Awards Description
Each year the Dean’s Office of the Speed School of Engineering donates approximately $3,000 to be awarded to the winning posters in the research competition. Awards are given for the top three places in each department and for the overall winner of the undergraduate competition. For the graduate competition, awards are presented to the top two places in each department and to the overall winner.
